Neena Nanda
Neena Nanda is an Executive Assistant for an environmental non-for-profit organization in Toronto. She completed her honours degree in Environmental Studies at York University. Neena is a self-taught artist who works almost exclusively with acrylics and is striving to work with other mediums. She has been painting for over 4 years and has been drawing for over 10 years.
Neena has been a member of the Broken Fence Society for more than 2 years. The Broken Fence Society is an organization that promotes environmental awareness through visual arts. Joining this organization, Neena has combined her professional life with her passion for painting, which promotes environmental awareness through her artwork. Her pieces Smog City, Woods up in Smoke, and Green Power (a 5 piece series), reflect her environmental consciousness along with her passion for painting.
She usually works on canvas and uses acrylic paints, although pencils, charcoals, watercolours and oils are also a part of her palette. Her utilization of objects created in nature such as shells and sand are important elements in her artwork.
Neena hopes that her pieces will generate concern for the natural environment and will teach people to not only appreciate their natural surroundings, but to also make a conscious effort to preserve and protect our natural environment. Nature is not only a resource, but it is also a place where people go to find a peace of mind.
