Annemarie Polis
Annemarie Polis, born on December 24,
1962, initially pursued a career in Commercial Art.
After a number of years in the industry, she became
more involved with exploring her own creative ideas.
Although she periodically keeps her hand in freelance
and graphic design work, most of her time is spent in
art administration, including organizing various group
shows and activities. In her watercolour work and large
acrylic paintings, issues of the environment have been
an important message from the beginning. By focusing
on either the small intricacies of the natural landscape
or combining nature with the man made environment, Polis'
goal is to foster awareness of our day-to-day relationship
with nature. Whether her paintings comprise a simple
landscape, larger issues such as waste, or the impact
of our North American lifestyle on the environment,
they reveal the profound connection between nature and
our place within it.
